In late August, 2011, Hurricane Irene wreaked havoc in the Caribbean and along the entire East Coast of the United States. The storm caused the deaths of more than 55 people and damage in the United States alone has been estimated at more than 15 billion dollars. High winds and flooding caused severe property damage and widespread electrical outages.
But as with most natural disasters, Irene also provided a test for the endurance and resilience of the people, systems, and structures in its path. It is from such disasters that we learn about and celebrate our strengths, and examine and learn from our vulnerabilities and weaknesses.
Along with the rest of the country, the employees of “Golf Range Netting” mourned the loss of life and devastation caused by Irene. We also committed to identify and repair as quickly a possible any damage caused to installations of our netting systems so that the businesses and affected property involved could resume normal operation as quickly as possible.
We were gratified, but not surprised, that our barrier netting installations along impacted East Coast areas had demonstrated the kind of resilience in the face of severe weather that we promise our customers.
In one of our Maryland installations the surrounding area suffered significant property and tree damage but there was no damage to our netting system.
Similarly at a “Golf Range Netting” installation in Rhode Island there was significant wind damage to the surrounding structures and trees, and electrical systems were out for 5 days, but there was no damage at all to our netting installation.
Only in one instance did any of our netting systems in the hurricane impacted area suffer any damage. In Rocky Point North Carolina, amid widespread tree and property damage, a single pole from one of our installations was struck by a fallen tree and broke, damaging a small area of netting. We replaced the pole and repaired the damage within 2 weeks, allowing the affected business to resume full operations quickly.
Extreme weather, including high winds and flooding rains like those produced by Irene, poses the most serious challenge to barrier netting systems. We believe that those who invest in our systems should feel confident that they will withstand the harshest elements and provide many years of service.
We at “Golf Range Netting” were very gratified that the work, expertise, and superior materials that we put into every one of our netting installations benefitted our customers during this unfortunate disaster.
